Magnescale Co., Ltd., a group company of DMG MORI CO., LTD. has begun construction on a Laserscale production plant on 13,220 m² of land between Nara City and Yamatokoriyama City in Nara Prefecture, with completion scheduled for May 2025. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 26, 2023, inviting Mr. Makoto Yamashita, Governor of Nara Prefecture, Mr. Gen Nakagawa, Mayor of Nara City, and Mr. Kiyoshi Ueda, Mayor of Yamatokoriyama.
Laserscale is a position detection system with picometer-level resolution used in state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing equipment and high-precision metal processing machines, and its demand and importance are increasing as processing and inspection accuracy improves. Laserscale is particularly indispensable for semiconductor miniaturization, and its supply is becoming increasingly important.
Currently, Laserscale is manufactured at the Isehara plant in Kanagawa Prefecture, but since it is expected to reach its production ceiling of 25,000 units by 2025, the decision was made to construct a new production facility. The new Nara Plants and Isehara Plants will have a maximum production capacity of 60,000 units. The Nara Plants will not only expand production, but will also be equipped with state-of-the-art Laserscale development facilities to meet market demands, and will have a mutual backup function with the Isehara Plants as a business continuity plan (BCP) in the event of a disaster.
