Step 1
To remove the plastic end cap open up the wipers and slide a small screwdriver inside and lift up slightly on the plastic tang. |
Step 2
Notice the toothed looking tang, this is what keeps the cap from falling off. |
Step 3
Slide the wipers out but not all the way as it is not necessary. |
Step 4
Just enough to clear the reader head. |
Step 5
Using a small Phillips screwdriver loosen the 2 countersink metric screws. |
Step 6
Using a small screwdriver lightly pry up on the cover plate. Be careful as there are small wires that are attached with silicone. |
Step 7
Inside the reader head it will look like this. |
Step 8
Pry up on the pigtail cable to remove from the reader head. |
Step 9
You then want to pry out the small connector. Sometimes it is stuck with silicone and may be hard to pry out. |
Step 10
The small PCB will come out slightly to give more room to work if needed just do not pull hard as the wires from the PCB go directly into the reader head and once broke it may not be repairable. |
Step 11
Here is what the reader head looks like with a dummy rod in place and the cover off. Notice that the cable can either come out the left or right side of the magnescale reader-head. |
Step 12
If the reader head is skewed then it will wear the reader head as the actual reader surrounding the rod is on a spring loaded disc. |
Step 13
Just use your fingers and move as close to center as possible. |
